PREFACE.

THROUGH the goodness of Providence, the Editor of the Christian Reformer is able to congratulate his readers upon the completion of another volume; and, relying upon the Divine protection and support, he intends to resume the work in the ensuing year, on the same plan and in the same spirit which have been approved from the beginning by an increasing number of subscribers. He thanks the contributors to the present volume for their valuable assistance, and earnestly solicits their future co-operation.

The Christian Reformer is designed for the people, of whom the mass have neither time nor opportunity for general reading. It is therefore desirable that it should contain as much information as possible on the most important religious and moral subjects; and the easiest and simplest style is evidently the best for a work with a popular design. How far the Christian Reformer has been hitherto conformable to the rule and the object here laid down, the reader must judge; it is only for the Editor to pledge himself that they shall be kept in view in the future numbers; having given this pledge, he commends his little volume and its readers to the blessing of the Father of lights, from whom cometh every good and perfect gift.
