Thou shalt not curfe the deaf, nor put a stumbling-block before the blind; but fhalt fear the Lord thy God, for I am the Lord. Thou shalt do nothing that is wicked, nor judge unjustly. Look not on the perfon of the poor, nor honour the perfon of the mighty; but judge thy neighbour according to juftice. GOSPEL. John x. 22, 38.

T that time: The feaft of the Dedication was kept in Jerufalem, and it was winter. And Jefus was walking in the temple, in Solomon's porch. The Jews therefore came about him, and faid to him: How long wilt thou hold our fouls in fu fpence? If thou art the Chrift, tell us plainly. Jefus answered them: I tell you, and you believe me not. The works I do in my Father's name, bear witness to me. But you believe not, because you are not of my fheep. My fheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any one fnatch them out of my hands. That which my Father hath given me, is greater than all" and nobody can fnatch them out of my Father's hands. I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up ftones to ftone him. Jefus anfwered them: I have fhewn you many good works from my Father; for which of them is it that you ftone me? The Jews answered him: We ftone thee not for any good work; but for blafphemy: and because thou, who art a man, makest thyself God.

Expl. The power my Father bath given me, is greater than that of any other. In the Greek it is: My Father, who gave them to me, is greater, or, above all.

Jefus answered them: Is it not written in your law : I faid, you are Gods? If he called them Gods, to whom the word of God came; and the fcripture cannot fail: fay you of him, whom the Father hath fanctified, and fent into the world: Thou blafphemeft, because I said: I am the Son of God? If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. But if I do them, tho' you will not believe me, believe the works; that you may know and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.

LESSON. Dan. iii. 34, 45.

N thofe days: Azarias prayed to the Lord, faying: O Lord our God, abandon us not for ever, we beseech thee, for thy name's fake, and make not void thy covenant: neither take away thy mercy from us for the fake of Abraham thy beloved, and of thy fervant Ifaac, and of thy holy one Ifrael; to whom thou spakedft and promisedft to multiply their feed as the stars of heaven, and as the fand on the fea fhore. For we, O Lord, are become the leaft of all nations, and we are humbled this day for our fins over the whole earth. Neither is there at this time a prince, leader, or prophet, or holocauft or facrifice, or oblation or incenfe, or place wherein to offer the first-fruits before thee, that we may obtain thy mercy. Neverthelefs let us be accepted with a contrite heart, and an humble fpirit. with the burnt-offerings of rams and bulls, and as with thoufands of fat lambs; fo let our facrifice be presented to thee this day, that it may be acceptable to thee; for they fhall not be confounded, who put their truft in thee.
