O let thy favour crown our days,
And all their round be thine!

2 Did we not raise our hearts to thee,
Our hands might toil in vain ;
Small joy success itself would give,
If thou thy love restrain.

3 With thee let ev'ry week begin,
With thee each day be spent,
For thee each fleeting hour improv❜d,
Since each by thee is lent.

4 'Midst hourly cares, my love present
Its incense to thy throne;

And while the world our hands employs,
Our hearts be thine alone.

HYMN LXXXIV.

Growth desired.

1 PRAISE to thy name, eternal God!
For all the light thou shed'st abroad,
For all thy influence from above,
To warm our souls with sacred love.

2 Bless'd be thy hand, which from the skies
Brought down this plant of paradise,
And gave its heav'nly beauties birth
To deck this wilderness of earth.

3 Unchanging sun! thy beams display,
To drive the frost and storms away;
Make ail thy potent virtues known,
To cheer a plant so much thy own.

4 May thy blest spirit deign to blow
Fresh gales of heav'n on shrubs below;
So shall they grow, and breathe abroad
A fragrance grateful to our God.

HYMN LXXXV.
Devout affection.

1 FOUNTAIN of being! God of love!
To thee our hearts we raise ;
Thine all-sustaining power we prove,
And gladly sing thy praise.

2 Thine, wholly thine, we long to be;
Our sacrifice receive;

Made, and preserv'd, and sav'd by thee,
To thee ourselves we give.

S Heavenward our every wish aspires;
For all thy mercies store,
The sole return thy love requires,
Is, that we ask for more.

4 For more we ask; we open, Lord,
Our hearts t' embrace thy will;
Renew us by thy heav'nly grace,
And with thy fulness fill.

5 Still may we find thy heavenly love
Shed in our hearts abroad;
So shall we ever live, and move,
And be with Christ in God...

HYMN LXXXVI.
Confidence in God our Father.

1 O GOD! on thee we all depend,
On thy paternal care;

Thou wilt the father and the friend
In every act appear.

2 With open hand and liberal heart
Thou wilt our wants supply;
Thy heav'nly blessings still impart,
And no good thing deny.

3 Our father knows what's good and fit,
And wisdom guides his love;

To thine appointments we submit,
And ev'ry choice approve.

In thy paternal love and care
With cheerful hearts we trust;
Thy tender mercies boundless are,
And all thy ways are just.

5 We cannot want, while God provides;
What he ordains is best;

And Heav'n, whate'er we want besides,
Will give eternal rest.

HYMN LXXXVII.

The presence of God our sure support. 1 AND art thou with us, gracious Lord,

To dissipate our fear!

Dost thou proclaim thyself our God,
Our God forever near?

2 Doth thy right hand, which form'd the earth,
And bears up all the skies,
Stretch from on high its friendly aid,
When dangers round us rise?

3 On this support our souls shall lean,
And banish every care;

The gloomy vale of death shall smile,
If God be with us there.

While we thy gracious succour prove
'Midst all our various ways,

The darkest shades through which we pass
Shall echo with thy praise.

HYMN LXXXVIII.

Trust in God through all the changes of life.
1 FATHER of mercies, God of love,
My father and my God,

I'll sing the honours of thy name,
And spread thy praise abroad,

2 My soul in pleasing wonder last,
Thy various love surveys;
Where shall my grateful lips begin,
Or where conclude thy praise?

3 In every period of my life

Thy thoughts of love appear;
Thy mercies gild each transient scene,
And crown each passing year.

4 In all these mercies may my soul
A father's bounty see,

Nor let the gifts thy grace bestows
Estrange my heart from thee.

5 Teach me, in time of deep distress,
To own thy hand, my God;
And in submissive silence hear
The lessons of thy rod.

6 In every varying mortal state,
Each bright, ech gloomy scene,
Give me a meek and humble mind,
Still equal and serene.

7 Then will I elose my eyes in death,
Without one anxious fear;

For death itself is life, O God,
If thou art with me there.

HYMN LXXXIX.

Reliance on divine protection.

1 ON thee, O God! we still depend,
Our father and our constant friend;
All that is good thou canst supply,
And put all threat'ning evil by.

2 Should wars on ev'ry side invade,
We'll shelter seek beneath thy shade;
We'll trust to thy paternal care,
Nor want, nor harm, nor danger fear.

5 We'll still refer ourselves to thee, And with our lot contented be; With one consenting heart and voice, Approve our heav'nly father's choice. 4 From earth we'll turn our longing eyes, To regions far beyond the skies; O fit us for that blest abode,

Where dwells our Father and our God. HYMN XC.

God the support of frail man. 1 LORD, we adore thy wondrous name, And make that name our trust,

Which rais'd at first this curious frame, From mean and lifeless dust.

2 A while these frail machines endure,
The fabrick of a day;

Then know their vital pow'rs no more,
But moulder back to clay.

5 Yet, Lord, whate'er is felt or fear'd,
This thought is our repose-

That he by whom this frame is rear'd,
Its various weakness knows.

4 Thou view'st us with a pitying eye,
Whilst struggling with our load;
-In pains and dangers thou art nigh,
Our Father and our God.

5 Gently supported by thy love,
We tend to realms of peace;
Where ev'ry pain shall far remove,
And ev'ry frailty cease.

HYMN XCI.

God our safety in danger.

1 HAPPY the souls that trust in God;
They find a most secure abode ;
They walk all day beneath his shade,
And there at night they rest their head.
