ters of the Bench, upon the representation that the Bishop of Gloucester intended to found the Lecture

and that his Lord

ship was desirous that the Lecturers

Lincoln's Inn. At a Council there held, the 22nd June, 1768, upon the motion of the Honourable Charles Yorke, Esq., one of the Masters of the Bench, representing that William Lord Bishop of Gloucester intends to found a Lecture in the form of Sermons, for proving the Truth of the Christian Religion, from the completion of the Prophecies in the Old and New Testament, which relate to the Christian Church, especially to the Apostasy of Papal Rome, and that his Lordship is desirous that the Rev. Mr. Hurd (now Preacher to this Society), and all the succeeding Lecturers, may have leave to preach the same in the Chapel belonging to this Society, annually, on three Sundays, after Morning Service; viz. on the first Sunday after Michaelmas Term, and also on the first Sunday should be given before and the first Sunday after Hilary Term, It is ordered, that leave pursuant to the be given pursuant to the said request, and that Mr. Yorke will be pleased to signify the same to his Lordship, with the just sense entertained by the Masters of the Bench of his attention and regard to the Society upon this occasion.

Extract from the Deed of Trust for founding the Warburtonian Lec- Extract from the ture, prefixed to the first Sermons preached at the said Lecture by Bishop Deed of Trust, 21st July, 1768, Hurd. An Indenture, bearing date July 21st, 1768, sets forth that for founding the the Right Reverend William Lord Bishop of Gloucester has transferred the Lecture. sum of £500 Bank four per cent. Annuities Consolidated, to the Right Honourable William Lord Mansfield, Lord Chief Justice of His Majesty's Court of Queen's Bench; the Right Honourable Sir John Eardley Wilmot, Lord Chief Justice of His Majesty's Court of Common Pleas; and the Honourable Charles Yorke, of Lincoln's Inn, in the county of Middlesex; upon trust for the purpose of founding a Lecture in the form of
