Length of the Pendulum at Paramatta.
The length of the pendulum vibrating seconds of mean solar time at Para-
matta in vacuo on the level of the sea at 0° REAUMUR, is 992.4128 millimetres.
My observations for the determination thereof have been published in the
second part of the third volume of the Memoirs of the Astronomical Society
of London. I took the measure from a brass meter made by LENOIR at Paris,
which after my return to London was compared, by Messrs. TROUGHTON and
SIMMs, with Sir GEORGE SHUCKBURGH's Scale of the same metal, and found
= 39.387988 English inches. Hence follows the length of the pendulum
vibrating seconds at Paramatta as above 39.0891435 English inches.

Page 128.—The barometer for the lower culmination of a Muscæ on June 23,

was 29.84 inches in lieu of 29.48 inches, and the corresponding refraction
4' 26".52, which makes the south polar distance by a mean of the 4 micro-
scopes for that Set of Observations 21° 48' 49".63.
