Candidus, et simplex, miseris succurrere promptus,

E cælo accepit dona repensa tamen ; Quod potuit, flebat sempèr cum flentibus ipse,

Quod cupiit, trepido semper amicus erat.

Ne scrutare ultrà —quodcunque peregerit olim

Restat, et à nobis facta tacenda manent; Crede igitur Superis; trutinâ ponentur in æquâ,

Quum steterit cunctis Ultimus Iste Dies.

XXXII.

Wag' in das Heiligthum nicht tiefer einzuschauen,
Das seine Tugenden und seine Fehler mißt.
uch, Beide liegen sie mit zitterndem Vertrauen
In dessen Brust versenkt, der Gott und Vater ist.

Più oltre non cercar, nè d' ir scoprendo

Ti studia le sue buone, o le triste opre. Fra la speme e 'l timor, nel sen tremendo

Di Dio si stanno, e denso vel le cuopre.

XXXII.

Ne mets point ses vertus, ses défauts en balance ;

Homme, tu n'es plus juge en ce funèbre lieu ; Dans un espoir tremblant il repose en silence,

Entre les bras d'un père et sous la loi d'un Dieu.
