T the clofe of another volume, the Editor returns his most grateful thanks to the Public, for the kind patronage bestowed on his work.

How far the promise, made at its commencement, has been fulfilled, it would be prefumption in him to fay-This the Public muft determine. Juftice however obliges him to acknowledge many imperfections, arifing from unexpected circumftances, which, he hopes, will not again occur. And, from the promises of his Correfpondents, and his own affiduity, he thinks he may venture to affert, that the future Numbers of the Phoenix will be rendered worthy of the Patronage of the Public; and the continuation of their favours be remembered with gratitude.

His fole endeavour fhall be to contribute to the entertainment of his Readers-his only with to merit their approbation.
