Th' Apoftles' glorious Company
Thy righteous Praise proclaim :
The Martyr'd Army glorify
Thine everlafting Name!

Among their Number, we prefume
To fing thy precious Blood:
Reign here, and in the World to come,
Thou Holy LAMB of GOD!

HYMN CCLXXI. L. M.

For a Nation, or Individuals in Distress.

G

REAT GOD, we know not what to
But fix our wifhful Eyes on Thee,

Who, or by many, or by few,
Canft fave in our Extremity.

Thine Arin, when all Resources fail,
It's own immortal Strength can brace,
When hoftile Multitudes prevail,
Thou fav'ft thy People by thy Grace.

Oft hath thine Arm in ancient Days,
Stretch'd out in our Defence appear'd,
And ranfom'd our unworthy Race,
And fnatch'd us from the Death we fear'd,

Now, may thy Spirit in us Cry,

In ours thine own Request attend ;
O LORD of Hofts, O LORD, moft High,
Deliverance to thine Ifrael fend.

do,

For thou art ftill a faithful God,
Our GoD in ev'ry Age the fame,
Our Truft is fill in JESU's Blood,
We ask this Grace in JESU's Name.

HYMN CCLXXII.
CCLXXII C. M.
GOD's Sovereignty.

K

EEP Silence, all created Things,
And wait your Maker's Nod!

My Soul ftands trembling, while the fings
The Honours of her GOD.

Life, Death, and Hell, and World's unknown,
Hang on his firm Decree:
He fits on no precarious Throne,

Nor borrows leave to BE.

Chain'd to his Throne a Volume lies,
With all the Fates of Men:
With ev'ry Angel's Form and Size,
Drawn by th' eternal Pen.

His Providence unfolds the Book,
And makes his Counfels fhine:
Each op'ning Leaf, and ev'ry ftroke,
Fulfils fome deep Defign.

Nor Gabriel afks the Reason why,
Nor GOD the Reafon gives:
Nor dare the firft-born Seraphs pry.
Between the folded Leaves.

Good, when he gives, fupremely good,
Nor lefs, when he denies.

E'en Croffes, from his Sov'reign Hand,
Arc Bleffings in Difguife.

In thy fair Book of Life and Grace,
O may I fee my Name;
Recorded in fome humble Place,
Beneath my LORD the LAMB!

HYMN CCLXXIII. 8s.
The Keeper of Ifrael.

WH

HAT tho' my frail Eyelids refufe
Continual Watching to keep,
And punctual as Midnight renews,
Demand the Refreshment of Sleep.
A Sov'reign Protector I have,
Unfeen, yet for ever at Hand:
Unchangeably faithful to fave,
Almighty to rule and Command.

From Evil fecure and its dread,
I reft if my SAVIOUR is nigh,
And Songs his kind Prefence indeed
Shall, in the Night Seafon, fupply :
He fmiles, and my Comforts abound;
His Grace as the Dew fhall defcend;
And Walls of Salvation furround

The Soul he Delights to defend.

Kind Author and Ground of my Hope; Thee, Thee, for my God I avow; My glad Eben-ezer fet up,

And own, thou haft help'd me till now:

I mufe on the Years that are past,
Wherein my Defence thou haft proved;
Nor wilt thou relinguifh, at last,
A Sinner fo fignally loved.

Infpirer and Hearer of Pray'r,

Thou Feeder and Guardian of thine,
My all to thy covenant Care,
I, fleeping and waking, refign:
If thou art my Shield and my Sun,
The Night is no Darknefs to me;
And faft as my Moments roll on,
They bring me but nearer to thee.

Thy minift'ring Spirits defcend

To watch while thy Saints are afleep; By Day and by Night they attend, The Heirs of Salvation to keep: Bright Seraphs, dispatch'd from the Throne, Repair to their Stations affign'd; And Angels elect are fent down To guard the Elect of Mankind.

Thy Worship no Interval knows;
Their Fervor is ftill on the Wing;
And, while they protect my Repofe,
They chaunt to the Praife of my King :
I too, at the Seafon ordain'd,

Their Chorus for ever fhall join ;
And Love and adore without End,
Their faithful Creator, and mine.

HEN Languor and Disease invade
This trembling Houfe of Clay,

'Tis fweet to look beyond our Cage,
And long to fly away,.

Sweet to reflect how Grace divine,
My Sins on JESUS laid

;

Sweet to remember, that his Blood
My Debt of fuff'ring paid.

Sweet in his Righteoufnefs to ftand,
Which faves from fecond Death;
Sweet to Experience Day by Day
His Spirit's quick'ning Breath.

Sweet on his Faithfulness to reft,
Whofe Love can never End;
Sweet on his Covenant of Grace,
For all Things to depend.

Sweet to look inward and attend
The Whispers of his Love;
Sweet to look upward to thre Place,
Where JESUS pleads above.

Sweet to look back, and fee my Name
In Life's fair Book fet down;
Sweet to look forward and behold

Eternal Joys my own
