the giant sons

Of the embrace of angels.

"That the Sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were fair," &c.

"There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the Sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown."

Genesis, ch. vi. verses 2 and 4.

HEBREW MELODIES.

The subsequent poems were written at the request of my friend, the Hon. D. Kinnaird, for a Selection of Hebrew Melodies, and have been published, with the music, arranged, by Mr. BRAHAM and Mr. NATHAN.

HEBREW MELODIES.

SHE WALKS IN BEAUTY.

1.

SHE walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright

Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light

Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

2.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair'd the nameless grace

Which waves in every raven tress,

Or softly lightens o'er her face; Where thoughts serenely sweet express

How pure, how dear their dwelling place.

3.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,

The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,

A heart whose love is innocent!
