18. The Gospels assigned on Sundays are never omitted. Wherefore if a Double is kept on a Sunday, at the end of Mass is read the Gospel of the Sunday, instead of that of St. John: And the same is observed when a Double or Semidouble is kept upon any day in Lent, or on a Vigil or Ember-Day. HOLIDAYS of OBLIGATION.

All the days marked in the Calendar in CAPITAL letters. All Sundays. E after. Day, and the two days next following. Afcenhon-Day.' Whitsunday, and the two days next following. Corpus Chrifti.

FASTING DAYS. All days marked Fast in the Calendar. Every day in Lent, except Sundays : The Ember-Days in the four seasons of the year, viz. Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday after the third Sunday in Advent; after the first Sunday in Lent; after Whitsuntide ; and after the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. All Fridays, except from Christmas-Day till after the Octave of the Epiphany; and between Easter and WhitsunEve; and those on which a festival falls, unless it be in Lent or Ember-Week.

Any fafting-day that falls on a Sunday is kept on the Saturday before.

Days of ABSTINENCE from Flesh. The Fridays above excepted from fasts : All Saturdays throughout the year: All Sundays in Lent: The three Rogation-Days, being Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday before Afcenfion-Day: St. Mark's day out of the Diocese of Canterbury, unless it fails in Easter-Week.

N. B. If Christmas-Day fall on Friday or Saturday, they are neither fast nor abstinence.

Can. 21. “ Every one of the faithful of each fex, after they « come to the years of discretion, fhall in private “ faithfully confefs all their fins, at least once a year, as to their own Paftor; and take care to fulfill, to the “ best of their power, the pennance enjoined them;

receiving reverently, at least at Easter, the facra66 ment of the Eucharist; unless perhaps, by the 66 advice of their Pastor, for some reasonable cause, " they judge proper to abstain from it for a time; 66 otherwise let them be excluded the Church while

living, and, when they die, be deprived of Chri• ftian burial.
