Hus faith the Lord: I have heard thee at a favourable time, I have helped thee in the day of falvation and I have preferved thee, and I have appointed thee for the covenant of my people, to restore the earth, and to poffefs the inheritances that were laid wafte: that thou mayft say to those, who are in chains; go forth and to fuch as are in darkness; see the light. They fhall feed in the ways, and on every plain fhall be their pastures. They fhall not hunger nor thirft, neither fhall the heat, or the fun hurt them: because he, that hath taken pity on them, shall conduct them, and give them drink at the fountains of water. And I will level all my mountains to an even way, and my hollow paths fhall be raised. Behold fome shall come from afar off; and behold fome from the north and the fea, and others from the fouthern country. Praise the Lord, O ye heavens, and rejoice thou, O earth, and, ye mountains, fing forth his praise; because the Lord hath comforted his people, and he will take compaffion on his poor ones. But Sion hath faid: The Lord hath abandoned me, and the Lord hath forgot me.

Can a

woman forget her child, so as not to have any compaffion for the child of her womb? And though she fhould thus forget it, yet I will never forget thee, faith the Lord Almighty.

GOSPEL. John viii. 12, 20.

T that time: Jefus fpoke to the multitude of the Jews, faying: I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life. The Pharifees therefore said to him: Thou beareft teftimony to thyfelf: therefore thy teftimony is not true. Jefus answered and faid to them: Tho' I bear teftimony to myself, yet my teftimony is true; because I know whence I came, and whither I am going; but you know not whence I came, nor whither I am going. You judge according to the flesh; I judge no man. And if I do judge, my judgment is true, because I am not alone; but I, and the Father, who fent me. Now it is written in your law, that the teftimony of two is true. I am who bear witnefs to my felf; and my Father, who fent me, beareth witness to me. Then they faid to him: Where is thy Father? Jefus answered: You know neither me, nor my Father: if you knew me, you would also know my Father. Thus fpoke Jefus in the treasury, teaching in the temple; and no one feized him, because his hour was not yet come.
