When thefe Sentiments began to be general, they were foon conveyed to England, and came like the Balm of Gilead to the unhappy Exile; for though he left the Kingdom with due Refentment on his Part, yet, as all our Paffions fubfide by Time, he began to feel the Influence of filial Love for his Parent Country..

During his Abfence of two Years, I con ftantly correfponded with him; and as my Partner expreffed his Defire to part with his Share of the Mortgage in a public Advertisement, Mr. Sheridan had Time to prepare to pay him off, which he did on the appointed Day, by the Help of a Gentleman in London, who lent him a thoufand Pounds for that Purpose: Accordingly, the Lawyers were called in to transfer

Mr. Sowdon's Moiety of the Mortgage to that Gentleman; who, I was told by Sheridan, was alfo to be concerned with him in the Profits.

As for myself, I was well contented to return to my former Station of Treasurer, and Affiftant Manager; and, by that Means, to a Certainty. Accordingly, an Article was drawn up between us by Mr. Howard, of which the following is a Copy, which I have a Reafon for inferting, that will appear hereafter.

ARTICLES of agreement, indented, made, concluded, and agreed upon, this fifteenth Day of July, one thousand seven hundred and fifty-five, by and betweenand fo forth.

First. That the faid Benjamin Victor fhall act as Manager and Conductor of fuch Part or Parts, of the two Theatres in Aungier's Street and Smock Alley, for the next Winter Season, to commence from the first Day of September next, and to the End of the acting Seafon for that Year. If fo the faid Thomas Sheridan fhall direct, allot, and appoint; and fhall alfo act as Treafurer of the faid Theatres, to be prefent at the taking the Receipts and Profits of the faid Theatres, and to be Keeper of the Cafh.

zdly. Or that the faid Benjamin Vi&tor fhall act in the Capacity and Business of fole Manager, if fo called upon and required to do by the faid Thomas Sheridan. Or that the faid Victor shall act as Treasurer

only at the Election of the faid Thomas Sheridan, and as he shall allot and appoint. And that the faid Benjamin Victor fhall act in either of these last mentioned Capacities, as the faid Thomas Sheridan fhall fo elect and appoint as aforefaid, for the Remainder of the Term which the faid Sheridan hath to come, and is unexpired in the Lease he now hath of the faid two Theatres.

3dly. That in whichfoever of the faid three Capacities the faid Benjamin Victor fhall fo aft, according as the fame fhall be allotted or appointed by the faid Thomas Sheridan; the faid Thomas Sheridan fhall pay, or cause to be paid unto the faid Benjamin Victor, the yearly Sum of one hundred Pounds, by equal weekly Payments during the acting Season.

4thly, And further, in case the faid Benjamin Victor, as Affiftant Manager and Treafurer of the faid Theatres, fo far as to be prefent at the taking the Accounts and Profits of the faid Theatres, and to be Keeper of the Cash, that in either or both the last two mentioned Stations, the faid Benjamin Victor, fhall be entitled unto, and fhall have and receive the whole Iffues and clear Profits of a Play on fome one Night to be named and appointed by the faid Benjamin Victor in the Month of March (over and above the aforefaid yearly Sum of one hundred Pounds) the faid Benefit Play to be one that fhall at that Time be ready in the Company, but to be clear of all Expences, and the faid Night to be previous to the Commencement of the Benefit Plays usually
