HE King of Great Britain, and the with the reciprocal Defire to reeftablish Union and good Understanding between Them, as well for the Good of Mankind in general, as for that of Their respective Kingdoms, States, and Subjects, having reflected, Joon after the Rupture between Great Britain and Spain, on the State of the Negotiation of last Year, (which unhappily had not the defired Effect,) as well as on the Points in Difpute between the Crowns of Great Britain and Spain; Their Britannick and Moft Chriftian Majefties began a Correfpondence to en deavou [4] une Correfpondance, pour chercher les Moyens d'ajufter les Differens qui fubfiftent entre Leurs dites Majeftés: En même tems, le Roy Très Chrétien ayant fait part au Roy d'Efpagne de ces heureuses Difpofitions, Sa Majefté Catholique s'eft trouvée animée du même Zéle pour le Bien de l'Humanité, et celui de fes Sujets, et resolüe à étendre et multiplier les Fruits de la Paix, par fon concours à de fi louables Intentions. En confequence Leurs Majeftés Britannique, Très Chrétienne, et Catholique, ayant mûrement confideré tous les Points ci-deffus, ainfi que les differens Evenemens furvenus pendant le Cours de la prefente Negociation, font convenus d'un commun Accord, des Articles ci-après, qui ferviront de Base au Traité de Paix futur. A l'Effet de quoi, Sa Majesté Britannique a nommé et autorifé, Le Sieur Jean, Duc et Comte de Bedford, Marquis de Tavistock, &c. Miniftre d'Etat du Roy de la Grande Bretagne, Lieutenant General des Ses Armées, Garde de Son Sceau Privé, Chevalier du Très Noble Ordre de la Jarretiére, et Miniftre Plenipotentiaire de Sa Majesté Britannique près de Sa Majefté Très Chrétienne; Sa Majefté Très Chrétienne, Le Sieur Cefar Gabriel de Choifeul, Duc de Praflin, Pair de France, Chevalier des Ordres du Roy Très Chrétien, Lieutenant General de Ses Armées, Confeiller en tous Ses. Confeils, et Miniftre deavour to find Means to adjust the Differences fubfifting between Their faid Majefties. At the Jame Time, the Moft Chriftian King having communicated to the King of Spain these happy Difpofitions, His Catholick Majefly was animated with the fame Zeal for the Good of Mankind, and That of His Subjects, and refolved to extend and multiply the Fruits of Peace by His Concurrence in fuch laudable Intentions. Their Britannick, Moft Chriftian, and Catholick Majefties, having, in confequence, maturely confidered all the above Points, as well as the different Events which have happened during the Courfe of the prefent Negotiation, have, by mutual Confent, agreed on the following Articles, which shall ferve as a Bafis to the future Treaty of Peace. For which Purpofe, His Britannick Majefty has named and authorised, John Duke and Earl of Bedford, Marquess of Tavistock, &c. Minifter of State of the King of Great Britain, Lieutenant General of His Forces, Keeper of His Privy Seal, Knight of the most Noble Order of the Garter, and His Britannick Majesty's Minifter Plenipotentiary to His Mot Chriftian Majefty; His Moft Chriftian Majefty, Cæfar Gabriel de Choifeul, Duke of Praflin, Peer of France, Knight of the Moft Christian King's Orders, Lieutenant General of His Forces, Councillor in all His Councils, and Minifter and Secretary of State, of His Commands, and Fi nances Miniftre et Secretaire d'Etat de Ses Commandemens et Finances; et Sa Majefté Catholique a pareillement nommé et autorifé, Le Sieur Dom Jerome Grimaldi, Marquis de Grimaldi, Chevalier des Ordres du Roy Très Chrétien, Gentilhomme de la Chambre de Sa Majefté Catholique avec Exercice, et Son Ambaffadeur Extraordinaire auprès de Sa Majefté Très Chrétienne; Lefquels, après s'être düement communiqués Leurs Pleinpouvoirs, en bonne Forme, font convenus des Articles fuivans. Article I. Auffitôt que ront fignés, et ratifiés, l'Amitié fincere fera retablie entre Sa Majefté Britannique et Sa Majesté Très Chrétienne, et entre Sa dite Majesté Britannique et Sa Majefté Catholique, Leurs Royaumes, Etats, et Sujets, par Mer, et par Terre, dans toutes les Parties du Monde. Il fera envoyé des Ordres aux Armées et Efcadres, ainfi qu'aux Sujets des Trois Puiffances de ceffer toute Hoftilité, et de vivre dans la plus parfaite Union, en oubliant le paffé, dont leurs Souverains leurs donnent l'Ordre et l'Exemple. Et pour l'Execution de cet Article, il fera donné, de part et d'autre, des Paffeports de Mer aux Vaiffeaux, qui feront expediés pour en porter la Nouvelle dans les Poffeffions refpectives des Trois les Preliminaires fe Puiffances. Article nances; And His Catholick Majefty has likewife named and authorized, Dom Jerome Grimaldi, Marquis de Grimaldi, Knight of the Moft Chriftian King's Orders, Gentleman of the Bed-Chamber to His Catholick Majefly in Employment, and His Ambaffador Extraordinary to His Most Chriftian Majefty; who, after having duely communicated to each other Their Full Powers in good Form, have agreed on the following Articles. Article I. As foon as the Preliminaries fhall be figned and ratified, fincere Friendship fhall be re-established be tween His Britannick Majefty and His Moft Chriftian Majefty, and between His faid Britannick Majefly and His Catholick Majefty, Their Kingdoms, States, and Subjects, by Sea, and by Land, in all Parts of the World. Orders fhall be fent to the Armies and Squadrons, as well as to the Subjects, of the Three Powers, to ftop all Hoftilities, and to live in the most perfect Union, forgetting what has passed, of which their Sovereigns give them the Order and Example: And, for the Execution of this Article, Sea Paffes fhall be given, on each Side, for the Ships,which shall be dispatched to carry the News of it to the refpective Poffeffions of the Three Powers.
