¶ 166. Ans. 2. A supernumerary relation shall ot be granted by an Annual Conference, except on e recommendation of a Committee on Conferce Relations, consisting of not less than seven embers, to be appointed by the Conference, to hom such application shall have been referred. Nor shall said committee, in making up their deciion, take into consideration anything else than he personal disability of the applicant: provided, however, that in case said committee report adversely, the Conference, by a vote of not less than three-fourths of the members present, may grant said application. The Conference shall have authority to refer the case to the committee for said relation, with or without the consent of the person concerned.

¶ 167. Ans. 3. A supernumerary preacher who refuses to attend to the work assigned him, unless in case of sickness or other unavoidable cause or causes, shall not be allowed to exercise the functions of his office, nor even to preach among us; nevertheless, the final determination of the case shall be with the Annual Conference of which he is a member, which shall have power to acquit, suspend, loor evnel him es the code mor ho• nrowided

SECTION XI.

OF LOCAL PREACHERS.

Question 1. What directions are given concernng the licensing of persons to preach?

¶ 171. Ans. 1. The District Conference shall have authority to license proper persons to preach, and to renew their license annually, when, in its judgment, their gifts, grace, and usefulness will warrant it.

172. Ans. 2. No person shall be licensed to preach without the recommendation of the Quarterly Conference of the charge to which he belongs. Nor shall any one be licensed to preach without first passing, before a committee of three, to be appointed by the Presiding Elder, an approved exam-. ination on the subject of doctrines and discipline, and giving satisfactory evidence of his knowledge of the ordinary branches of an English education; nor shall any license be valid unless signed by the President and the Secretary of the Conference.

The following form of license shall be used:
