THE Views at pages 31, 39, and 40, represent the improvements and restorations already effected, and intended to be so, when completed. Towards this laudable object the Public are respectfully invited to contribute. The application of the funds received, is the best guarantee that can be offered for the disposal of any future ones which may be given to them. The Vicar, The Rev. Thomas Guy, and Churchwardens, grateful for past, with deference and respect, solicit future aid, to enable them to complete the work of restoration.

Deruentio, qui imbribus auctus & quasi irritatus sæpiùs ripas con-
temnit, & vicinis pratis superinfunditur, hinc reshill castrum
nitidum, & munitum præteriens quod Thomas Percius Vigorniæ
Comes construxerat, velocior sub Babthorpe quæ clare Equitum familiæ
nomen & mansionem præbet, in Ousam prosilit. Qui iam auctiores
vndas trahens delabitur prope Howden oppidum mercatorium, cuius
celebritas non est ab elegantia, aut frequentia, sed quod nomen terri-
toriolo adiuncto fecerit, (quod Howdenshire inde dicitur) & Collegi-
atam iampridem quinque Præbendariorum ecclesiolam ostendat, cui
adiunctæ sunt Dunelmensium Episcoporum ædes, qui amplissimas
possessiones eò loci habent. E quibus Walterus Skirlaw qui floruit
circa annum 1390, vt in libro Dunelmensi legitur, Campanile huius
ecclesiæ summæ magnitudinis construxit, vt si fortuita aquarum eueniret
inundatio, incolis esset perfugium.
