therefore no reason to complain, and I dare say that, like Sir FRETFUL PLAGIARY, he is rather pleased than otherwise. I have now metioned all who have done me the honour to notice me and mine, that is, my Bear and my Book, except the Editor of the Satirist, who, it seems, is a gentleman, God wot! I wish he could impart a little of his gentility to his subordinate scribblers. I hear that Mr. JERNINGHAM is about to take up the cudgels for his Mæcenas, Lord CARLISLE; I hope not: he was one of the few, who, in the very short intercourse I had with him, treated me with kindness when a boy, and whatever he may say or do 66 pour on, I will endure." I have nothing further to add, save a general note of thanksgiving to readers, purchasers,

and publisher, and in the words of SCOTT, I wish

"To all and each a fair good night,

"And rosy dreams and slumbers light."

ENGLISH BARDS AND SCOTCH
REVIEWERS,

A Satire, by LORD BYRON. Third Edition, Price 5s. boards.

"It unites much of the judgment of the Essay on Criticism, the playful yet poignant smile and frown of indignation and ridicule of the Dunciad, with the Versification of the Epistle to Arbuthnot, and the acuteness of the imitations of Horace. In a word, many years have passed since the English press has given us a performance so replete with mingled genius, good sense, and spirited animadversion", &c. &c. GENTLEMAN'S MAG. March, 1809.

"Since the time of the Baviad, we have not met with a production combining so much severity with so much genuine wit, humour, and real talent," &c. &c.

A few plain OBSERVATIONS upon the End and Means OF POLITICAL REFORM,

and the Measures adopted by the present Supporters of that Cause, Price 2s. 6d.

"The means by which he proposes to effect it are more constitutional, and his plan more temperate than any, (except perhaps that of Mr. Pitt,) which has yet come within our observation. His description of that meeting, (speaking of the Crown and Anchor,) which will apply to all of a similar kind, is too emphatic and too just to be omitted or given in any words but his own. Suggestions on different subjects are added, some of which (especially those respecting diplomatic agents,) seem not unworthy attention." BRITISH CRITIC, Dec. 1809.
