William Babell, b. c. 1690, d. 1723, was celebrated for his proficiency on the harpsi1. He was a member of the royal band. His fame reached to France, Holland and any, where some of his works were printed. He was the first composer, says e, to introduce in his harpsichord music the popular tunes of his day, a previunheard of innovation. This is a very choice and rare volume.

P. E. Bach's reputation as a clavier-player was established by the above. It first methodical treatise on its subject.
