Graciously hear us, O God, graciously hear us, O Lord God.

Then shall be recited the following Anthem, or instead of it the Psalms appointed for the Day.

Min. WE praise thee, O God, we worship thee, the one true and living God, who art infinite and unchangeable in all thy perfections.

Peo. Blessed art thou O Lord God, and worthy to be praised for ever.

Min. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting thou art God.

Peo. Thou livest, and reignest for ever.

Min. Thou art the Lord, and changest not; of old hast thou laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of thy hands; they shall perish, but thou shalt endure; thy counsel standeth fast, and thy thoughts unto all generations.

Peo. Thou art the same, yesterday, to-day, and for

ever.

Min. Whither can we flee from thy presence? heaven is thy throne, the earth is thy footstool, and the universe thy habitation.

Peo. All things are full of thee.

Min. Thou hast founded the earth by thy wisdom, and stretched out the heavens by thine understanding; by thy knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew; thou art mighty in wisdom, wonderful in counsel, and excellent in all thy works.

Peo. O Lord, how manifold are thy works; in wisdom hast thou made them all.

Min. Thou art the righteous Lord, who exercisest judgment in the earth; thy righteousness is like the great mountains, thy faithfulness reacheth above the clouds; eternal truth is thy law.

Peo. Upright art thou, O Lord; all thy works are just and true.

Min. O Lord God, holy and reverend is thy name; thou art of purer eyes than to behold iniquity; sinners cannot stand before thee; but the upright in heart are always in the light of thy countenance. Peo. We reverence thee, O Lord, for thou art holy.

Min. Above all we praise thee, we worship thee, as the Lord God gracious and merciful, the God of love, and of all consolation; thou exercisest loving kindness and benignity; thou delightest to make all thy creatures happy; thou doest good continually; and thy tender mercies are over all thy works.

Peo. O that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his won

derful works to the children of men.

Min. But who, O Lord, can show forth all thy praise? We behold the monuments of thy power; we trace the footsteps of thy wisdom; and every moment of our lives partake of the riches of thy goodness; but none can say how great, and wise, and good thou art.

Peo. Who can find out thee, the Almighty, unto perfection?

Min. With one consent, and with our whole hearts, we would celebrate thy glorious perfections here below, until our souls become prepared for thy kingdom and service above; there to worship thee in a more perfect manner, through the ages of eternity. Amen.

Then may follow a Voluntary on the Organ; after which the FIRST LESSON is to be read out of the Old Testament; and then the Service is to proceed with the following Thanksgiving.

Minister.

REJOICE in the Lord, all ye people; come into his presence with thanksgiving, and be devout and joyful in his service.

Sing praises unto him, and bless him; for he is good, and his mercy endureth for ever.

People.

We will give thanks unto the Lord for he is good, and his mercy endureth for ever.

Minister.

Almighty God, Father of all mercies; we would offer unto thee our unfeigned thanksgivings for thy goodness and loving kindness to us and to all

men.

We thank thee for the breath of life, the light of reason and conscience, the benevolent and friendly affections, and all the useful and noble powers of our minds. We thank thee for our continual preservation, for the food

we eat, the raiment with which we are clothed, and the habitations wherein we dwell; for health and peace and safety; for every personal and family and public blessing; for every friendly and social enjoyment, and for all the happiness of our lives.

People.

Bless the Lord, O our souls, and forget not all his benefits.

Minister.

But above all we bless thee, O ever gracious Father, for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesns Christ, for the means of grace, and the hope of glory. We thank thee for those pure and heavenly doctrines which he hath taught, to lead mankind in the way of truth and salvation; for those holy and excellent rules of virtue and true religion, which he hath laid down in his gospel; and for the perfect example which he

hath left us, that we might follow his steps. We thank thee, that in obedience to thine authority, and to fulfil all righteousness, he submitted unto death, that being made perfect by suffering, he might become the author of eternal salvation to all who obey him.

And finally we bless thee, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, that by raising him from the dead, thou hast confirmed to us the glorious and joyful hope of an inheritance incorruptible, undefiled, and which fadeth not away, reserved in the heavens for us.

People.

Glory be to God in the highest; on earth peace, good will to men.

Minister.

O Lord our God, who can number all thy mercies? thy bounty prevents our requests, seasonably supplies every returning want, and gives us all

things richly to enjoy. Write a law of thankfulness on our hearts, we beseech thee, and grant that we may walk before thee, in holiness and righteousness, all the days of our lives. Amen.

Here the SECOND LESSON is to be read, out of the New Testament; and then the Service may proceed as follows.

Minister.

SURELY it is meet to be said unto God, we have done iniquity.

To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have sinned against him.

Let us therefore confess and lament our manifold transgressions before the throne of grace.

GENERAL CONFESSION.

ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father, we confess that in many things we have all offended; we have not duly improved the talents with which

thou hast intrusted us; we have too often neglected our duty to ourselves and to our fellow creatures, and our consciences witness against us. With humble and penitent hearts we lament before thee, O our Father, every instance of disobedience; whatever we have done amiss in thought, word, or deed; every offence against thee, our neighbor, or ourselves. Forgive our sins, we beseech thee, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness; and may we bring forth the fruits which are meet for repentance, by walking in newness of life, in humble expectation of thy mercy declared unto mankind through Jesus Christ our Lord.

People.

O God, make clean our hearts within us, and take not thy holy Spirit from

us.

Then shall be read the COLLECT FOR THE DAY, and one or more of the following Prayers.

ALMIGHTY God, the giver of every good and perfect gift, we recommend ourselves and all our concerns to the disposal of thy gracious providence.

Thou knowest

what is truly good for us, and it is our highest happiness that we are under thy fatherly care. In humble submission to thy wise and gracious will, we beseech thee to bless us with health of body, and peace of mind; and to bestow upon us such a share of the good things of this life, as thou knowest to be best for us. Conduct us by thy gracious hand through all the changes of this world; and may we at last be perfect and happy, in that heavenly inheritance, which is incorruptible, and fadeth not away. Amen.
