The Indo-Aryans of Ancient South Asia: Language, Material Culture and Ethnicity
The volume offers a range of papers concerning archaeological and linguistic approaches to a study of the emergence of Indo-Aryan speakers in the 2nd millennium BC. ITs underlying theme ist the need to reconcile the approaches of these two disciplines towards ethnicity, migrations and social evolution since much of the current confusion regarding the "Aryan problem" stems from mutual misunderstandings of the subject matter, aims, approaches and limitations of archealogy and lingustics. The aim of the papers, thus, is to outline avenues to a solution of the problem, rather than to grope for the solutions themselves.
