PREFACE. By the kind permission of Messrs. Smith, Elder, & Co., I have been enabled to reprint as one, the three papers which appeared in the Cornhill Magazine of October, November, and December, of 1888. I have taken the opportunity of making a few corrections and amplifications; and, for the convenience of visitors, have added a short description of objects of interest in Keswick and its neighbourhood, and a note to tourists.
