1909. Mr. Gordon is unwilling that anyone who may look into this volume should fail to grasp his purpose in writing it. He has no interest in the destruction of the belief in miracle. He is concerned to show that where miracles has ceased to be regarded as true, Christianity remains in its essence entire; that the fortune of religion is not to be identified with the fortune of miracle; that the message of Jesus Christ to the world is independent of miracles, lives by its own reality and worth, self-evidencing and self-attesting.
