(1) Our Saviour may allude to the Water which they drew out of the Fountain of Siloam, which being mixed with the Wine that was of fered, was at the Feast of Tabernacles poured out upon the Altar, when all the People fung the Words of the Prophet Ifaiah, Chap. 12.3. Thefe Words are not to be found in exprefs Terms in the Old-Teftament; but what our Lord here promifes, is agreeable to the Defign of feveral Paffages in the Prophets, for which Reafon our Lord introduces them thus: As the Scripture hath said. This Promife may imply, that his faithful Difciples and Followers fhould not only be filled with divine Wifdom and Knowledge themselves, but by the miraculous Gifts of the Spirit, which was to be poured out after our Lord's Afcenfion and Exa tation in Heaven, be able to derive fuch Knowledge and Convicti on to others, as fhould be neceffary to eternal Salvation.
