LASCARIS (Constantini) De Octo Partibus Orationis.

c. 1515)

Sm. 4to. Calf gilt, rebacked. Greek and Latin. In 1515, Giunta copied the Aldine text of the work of Lascaris with a dedication by Bernardus Giunta. About the same time the firm also issued another edition containing the dedication, but without date or place. Like the Giunta edition copy in the British Museum, this volume is without the section in Hebrew which is mentioned on the title, and is sometimes found after the imprint and printer's mark in the 1515 edition. Le Grand, Bib. Hellenique, Vol 3, No. 87, considers that because two other works printed by the Giuntas in 1515 are referred to in the Preface, the book must be later, and he dates it 1516. is no criterion, for the dedication is identical with that of the 1515 edition. 4 pages in Sig. k" are wrongly imposed, the Latin and Greek being backed Latin to Latin, and Greek to Greek, instead of vice versa. This must have been done by the printers and probably proves the book to be the earlier version of the two. The printers have endeavoured to repair their mistake by pasting two leaves together where necessary. Altogether a curious and rare edition.
