*The first and apparently the only book from Schall's second press. He began printing at Mantua in 1475, and only four books from his press are known, all of them very rare. His types are a mixture of those used at the early Milan and Parma presses, being, however, taller and more beautiful than either of them. Schall was also a physician, and signs his dedication to Prince Frederick Gonzage, "Johannes Schallus Herosfeldensis physicus." At the foot of the dedication is a contemporary coat of arms: gules, a dog rampant, argent. Hain-Copinger *6711; Proctor 6908; Pellechet 4638.

Like all the early editions of her work, it is extremely rare, and, for the same reason, most copies having been thumbed out of existence. P. Harmont's work on Falconry is added to this edition, and, though named on the first title, is in reality a separate work, with its own title, signatures, and pagination, and is dated 1634.

*Hain *6593. Very rare and a most interesting copy, having belonged to the famous Melanchthon, and has 15 notes or corrections in his autograph. No. 1630 in the Kloss Sale Catalogue, Sotheby and Son, 1835. Albert Kunne was the first Memminge printer, and he printed there from 1482 to 1519. Collation: a and b 6 leaves each.

Cited by Dyce in his edition of The Tempest, and Drake in "Shakespeare and his Times," says that although not printed until 1633, these poems were certainly written before 1610.

*A beautiful copy of the choice first issue, with the printed title in red and black, the inscription on page 3 Le Mois de Mai in red, and the misprinted pages in the same piece, and having those superb impressions of the engravings which are found only when the book is in this state. It undoubtedly ranks first among the many productions of Eisen's genius, and is worthily styled by Cohen the chef-d'oeuvre of the XVIIIth century. The binding, in Derome's style, is a very fine example of Riviere's skill.
