4. such a serious consideration of the infinite majesty and glory of GOD, and of our own vileness and dependence, as may dispose us to approach Him in an humble and awful frame of mind, and in a decent lowly posture of body: p. 8-9.

5. a holy trust and confidence in the power, wisdom, and goodness of GOD; with an assured persuasion, that whatsoever we ask according to His will, we shall receive; not for any merit in ourselves, but for the sake, and through the mediation of our great High Priest, and Advocate with the FATHER, Jesus CHRIST, Who ever liveth to make intercession for us. p. 10-11.

To be frequent in prayer is a duty &c.

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God'.

Take no thought, saying, what shall we eat? or what shall we drink? or wherewithal shall we be clothed? for your Heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things: but seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you3.

Seek the Lord, and His strength; seek His face continually.

Seek ye the Lord while He may be found: call ye upon Him while He is near 5.

Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving 6.

Take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares 7.

Be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer'. Yet made we not our prayer before the Lord our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand Thy truth: therefore hath the Lord watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us 2.

Watch ye. therefore and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man 3.

My brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might*:

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit; and watching thereunto with all perseverance 5.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variablenss, neither shadow of turning 6.

For the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him: for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved 7.

As for me, I will call upon God, and the Lord shall save me. Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice 8.

1. first qualification—a conscientious care &c.

GOD is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth'.

We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doth His will, him He heareth 2.

The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth.

He will fulfil the desire of them that fear Him; He also will hear their cry, and will save them3.

And whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you : cleanse your hands ye sinners; and purify your hearts ye double-minded 5.

He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination 6.

The Lord is far from the wicked, but He heareth the prayer of the righteous".

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord; but the prayer of the upright is His delight 8.

Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss; that ye may consume it upon your lusts9.

If ye abide in Me, and My words abide in you; ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you 1o

The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous; and His ears are open unto their cry

The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth and delivereth them out of all their troubles 12.

For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty. Thou shalt make thy prayer unto Him, and He shall hear thee 1.

2.-such a calm and peaceable &c.

If thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee; leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift 2.

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have aught against any; that your Father also Which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses 3.

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you: but if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses *.

For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy 5.

Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow-servant, even as I had pity on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. So likewise shall My Heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me; I will render to the man according to his work 7.

But love your enemies; bless them that curse you; do good to them that hate you; and pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you; that ye

may be the children of your Father, Which is in heaven for He maketh His sun to rise on the evil, and on the good: and sendeth rain on the just, and on the unjust'.

Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful 2.

If thou deal thy bread to the hungry; and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house; when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh: then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily; and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy rere-ward. Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer; thou shalt cry, and He shall say, Here I am 3.

Thy prayer and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God".

For prayer is good with fasting, and alms, and righteousness 5.

And when thou givest alms, let not thine eye be envious; neither turn thy face from any poor; and the face of God shall not be turned away from thee 6.

But whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he shall also cry himself, but shall not be heard.

3.-an attentive consideration &c.

It is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing 8.

For the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence; and the violent take it by force 9.

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak 1o.
