Our Advocate appears,
And lays his thunder by:
Tbro' him we hope in heaven to reign. 5 Then let our souls arise,
Apd tread the tempter down;
conquest and a crown:
89. Vine. ' C. M. I am the vine, ye are the branches: lie that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing.-John xv. 5. JESUS, immutably the same!
Thou true and living vine!
My feeble arms I twine.
I flourish and bear fruit :
My vigour from thy root.
My strength is wholly thine:
If sever'd from the vine.
4 Upon my leaf, when parch'd with heat,
Refreshing dew shall 'drop; The plant, which thy right hand hath
Shall ne'er be rooted up. . [set, 5 Each moment, water'd by thy care,
And fenc'd with power divine,
The feeblest branch of thine.
90. Vine. 7s. I am the true vine. Abide in me and I in you. As the
branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye except ye abide in me..JOHN xv. I, 4. SON of God, thy blessing grant, Still supply my every want; Tree of Life, thine influence shed,
With thy sap my spirit feed.
Wither without thee, and die;
O confirm my soul in thee! 3 Unsustain'd by thee, I fall;
Send the strength for which I call:
Help I every moment need.
Love me, save me, to the end;
91. The Way, Truth, and Life. L.M. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and
the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.-
The narrow way, till him I view. 2 The way the holy prophets went,
The road that leads from banishment, The King's bighway of holiness
for all his paths are peace. 3 This is the way I long have sought,
And mourn'd, because I found it not, My grief a burden long has been,
Because I could not cease from sin. 4 The more I strove against its pow'r,
I sinn'd and stumbled but the more; Till Jesus did his grace display,
Himself revealing as the way. 5 Lo! glad I come, and thou, blest Lamb,
Shalt take me to thee, as I am:
Nothing but love shall I receive. 6 And henceforth Ill to sinners round
Proclaim the Saviour I have found,
92. The Way, Truth, and Life. 8–8–6. Ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.-Joun
THERE is no path to heavenly bliss,
But CHRIST th' appointed road;
Till we sit down with God! 2 The types and shadows of the Word Unite in CHRIST, the Man, the Lord,
The Saviour, just and true;
And all bis precepts do!
Eternal and divine,
Eternal life is mine.
93. Wisdom, fc. L. M. But of him are ye in CHRIST JESUS, who of God is made
unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption. I Cor. i. 30. BURY'D in shadows of the night, We lie, till Curist restores the light; 6 Wisdom" descends to heal the blind. And chase the darkness of the mind.
2 Tb' awaken'd soul is fill'd with fears,
Till his atoning blood appears;
But Jesu's Spirit makes us clean; Such virtues from bis suff"rings flow,
To "sanctify” and pardon too.
Binding his slaves in heavy chains;
The iron bondage from our necks. 5 Poor helpless worms in thee possess Grace, wisdom, pow'r, and righteous
ness; Thou art our mighty All, and we Give our whole selves, O Lord, to thee.
94. Various. 8-7--7.
Turn not away the face of thine anointed. PSALM
JESUS is the Lord's anointed;
Come, eternal life to bring:
Israel's Prophet, Priest, and King;
