6 [The doubting, the fearful, the weak are my care, The helpless, the hopeless I hear their sad prayer; From all their aplictions my glory shall spring, The deeper their sorrows, the louder they'll sing.] 214. The depressed state of the Church lamented. L.M. PSALM CXXXVII. O ZION, when I think on thee, So distant from the place I love. For Zion's sacred courts I sigh : And see the Saviour eye to eye. 3 While here, I walk on hostile ground; The few that I can call my friends Are, like myself, with fetters bound, And weariness our steps attends. 4 But yet we shall behold the day When Zion's children shall return: 5 The hope that such a day will come, Makes e’en the captive's portion sweet: Tho' now we're distant far from home, In Zion soon we all shall meet. 215 The Excellency of the Church. 8-86. For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the His cause and their's the same; And calls them by his name, 2 0! Israel, who is like to thee? A people say'd, and call'd to be Peculiar to the Lord! Himself thy great reward! 3 Fear not, though many should oppose, For God is stronger than thy foes, And makes thy cause his own: The promis'd land before thee lies, Go, and possess the glorious prize, Reserv'd for tbee alone. 4 In glory there the King appears, He wipes away his people's tears, And makes their sorrows cease: From toil and strife they there repose, And dwell secure from all their foes, In everlasting peace. 5 [Sweet hope! it makes the coward brave; It makes a freeman of the slave, And bids the sluggard rise : To mansions in the skies.] 216. * The Extension of the Church. 7-7-8. The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place is too Zion's children cry aloud : How they gather like a cloud: 'Tis the day of Zion's glory. Brighter from so dark a night: Filld with wonder and delight: * This and the Hymns to the end of the Section are appropriate to Missionary meetings. Zion's night of grief is ended : Zion of her God befriended. 3 Zion, now arise and shine; Lo! thy light from heav'n is come: These that crowd from far are thine : Give thy sons and daughters room. Sorrow from thy cup is taken; Thou shalt be no more forsaken. God bimself will be thy ligbt: Buried lies in endless night. 217. The Extension of the Church. L.M. He shall have dominion also from sea to sea : all nations shall serve him : and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.-Psalm lxxii. 8, 11, 17. JESUS shall reign wbere'er the sun Does his successive journies run : His kingdom stretch from sbore to shore, Till moons shall wax and wane no more. 2 To him shall endless pray'r be made, And princes throng to crown his head: With ev'ry morning sacrifice. Dwell on his love with sweetest song; And infant voices shall proclaim, Their early blessings on his name. 4 Blessings abound where'er he reigns; The pris'ner leaps to lose his chains : The weary find eternal rest; And all the sons of want are blest. 5 Where he displays his healing pow'r, Death and the curse are known no more: In him the tribes of Adam boast More blessings than their father lost. 6 Let every creature rise and bring Peculiar honours to our King: 218. The Extension of the Church. C.M. O sing unto the Lord all the earth, Sing unto the Lord, bless his name: show forth his salvation from day to day.-PSALM xcvi. 1, 2. SING to the Lord, ye distant lands, Ye tribes of ev'ry tongue; song: God's own Almighty Son ; His pow'r the sinking world sustains, And grace surrounds bis throne. |
