SIR CHRISTOPHER WANDESFORD, who was knighted and served as sheriff of Yorkshire in 1578. Elizabeth, daughter of Sir George Bowes, of Streatham, and was s. by his eldest son,

SIR GEORGE WANDESFORD, b. 20th May, 1573; knighted by King JAMES I.; and d. in 1610. He m. Catharine, daughter of Hansby, esq. of Beverley, and had issue,

William, citizen and merchant taylor of London, to whom and his heirs his eldest brother, 30th June, 1637, gave £20 per annum, issuing out of the manor of Castlecomer, and payable upon Strongbow's tomb in Christ Church, Dublin. In 1639 he was member in the Irish parliament for Ballynekill, in the Queen's County. Nicholas, M.P. for Thomastown in the parliament of Ireland.

The eldest son,

CHRISTOPHER WANDESFORD, esq. being upon close habits of intimacy and friendship with Sir Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Strafford, accompanied that eminent and ill-fated nobleman into Ireland when he was constituted chief governor of that kingdom, and was appointed in 1633 master of the rolls, at the same time being sworn of the privy council; of this office he had soon after a grant by patent for life. He was one of the lords justices in 1636 and 1639, and was appointed 1st April, 1640, lord deputy; but the fate of his friend Lord Strafford had so deep an effect upon him, that he died 3rd December, in that year. He m first, the daughter of William and sister of Sir John Ramsden, knt. of Byrom, in Yorkshire, but by that lady had no issue. He wedded, secondly, Alice, daugh ter of Sir Hewet Osborne, of Kniveton, in the same county, and had issue,

SIR CHRISTOPHER WANDESFORD, who was tainted by King JAMES's parliament in 1689, and hal his estate sequestered; but on the Revolution he was sworn of the privy council by King WILLIAN, and again in 1702 by Queen ANNE, who advanced him to the peerage of Ireland in 1706, as Baron Wandesford and Viscount Castlecomer. He m. Elizabeth, dangh ter of George Montagu, esq. of Horton, in Northamp tonshire, and by that lady (who died 13th November, 1731,) had issue,

year he was sworn of the privy council to King GEORGE I. and the next year appointed governor of the county of Kilkenny. In 1717 he was constituted secretary-at-war, and died 23rd June, 1719, leaving by his wife, Frances, second daughter of Thomas, Lord Pelham, and sister to Thomas, Duke of Newcastle, an only child,

IV. SIR CHRISTOPHER WANDESFORD, third Viscount Castlecomer, b. in 1717, who d. in London of the smallpox unmarried 8th May, 1736, and was s. by his uncle, v. SIR GEORGE WANDESFORD, fourth Viscount Castlecomer, who m. Susannah, daughter of the Rev. Mr. Griffyth, of Cork, by whom he had several children, of which but three survived, viz.

VI. SIR JOHN WANDESFORD, fifth Viscount Castlecomer, who took his seat in the Irish House of Lords in 1751, and was created in 1758 Earl of Wandesford. He m. 11th August, 1750, Agnes-Elizabeth, daughter and heir of John Southwell, esq. of Enniscouch, in the county of Limerick, and had issue,

ANNE-WARBURTON SLOUGHTER, married first, to the Rev. Thomas Coupland, of the Priory, Chester; and secondly, to William Owen, esq. K.C. of Glansevern, in Montgomeryshire. That highly respected gentleman died deeply lamented in 1837, leaving to his widow the whole of his estates, including the beautiful seat of Glansevern.

1. JOHN WARNER, esq. of Parham, in Suffolk, son of Francis Warner, esq. of Parham, by Elizabeth, has wife, daughter of Sir John Rous, knt, of Henbam, and a lineal descendant of the ancient family of Warnet, of Warner's Hall, in Great Waltham, Essex, vis created a BARONET in 1660. He m. Trevor, daughter of Sir Thomas Hanmer, bart. of Hanmer, and had twa daughters, who both took the veil. At Sir John's de cease the title became EXTINCT.

1. FRANCIS WARRE, esq. of Hestercombe, in the parish of Kingston, in the county of Somerset, created a BART. in 1673, was only son of Sir John Warre, knt. M.P. for the county of Somerset, who died in 1669, by Unton, daughter of Sir Francis Hawley, of BucklandSororum, bart. (afterwards Baron Hawley, in the kingdom of Ireland; descended by his mother and grandmother from the Portmans, of Orchard-Portman, and the Lords Poulet of Hinton St. George.) Sir Francis Warre, in his early years was a captain in the Duke of Monmouth's own regiment, but upon his marriage he retired: he was also colonel of the Taunton regiment, vice-admiral of Somersetshire and the port of Bristol, a deputy lieutenant, in the commission of the peace, and M. P. for the boroughs of Bridgewater and Taunton in various parliaments to the year 1716. He twice married: first, Anne, daughter and heir of Robert Cuffe, esq. of Creech St. Michael, by whom he had one son, who served as a captain of dragoons, and died at Ghent, in Flanders, in the thirtythird year of his age; and secondly, Margaret, daughter of John Harbin, merchant of London, of a family of that name near Yeovil, in the county of Somerset, by whom he had

MARGARET.

Sir Francis died 1st December, 1718, and was buried with his ancestors in the family vault at Kingston. He was heir to Kentisbere, Meriet, Atwood, Percehaye, Clavile, Combe, Chipleigh, St. Barbe, and Cuffe, whose arms he quartered with his own. At his decease the BARONETCY became EXTINCT; but Hestercombe and the other estates of which he died seized devolved upon his only surviving child and heiress, MARGARET WARRE, who married John Bampfylde, younger and only brother of Sir Coplestone Warwick Bampfylde, of Poltimore, in the county of Devon, bart. The first wife of John Bampfylde, esq. was Elizabeth, daughter of Basset, esq. of Heanton Court, in the county of Devon, by whom he had no issue. He was representative in parliament first for the county of Devon, which he gave up to his nephew, Sir Richard Warwick Bampfylde, bart. when he came of age, and after that for the city of Exeter. He was born 8th April, 1690, and died 17th September, 1750, and is buried at Kingston. By his second wife, Margaret, the heiress of Hestercombe, he had issue,

This lady had been married before to John Malet, of Enmore, by whom she had issue an only daughter and heir, Elizabeth, m. to John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester. . His first wife was Vere, third daughter of the Hon. and Rev. Robert Booth, S.T. P. dean of Bristol, fifth

Margaretta, who married, as second wife, 31st December, 1753, George Tyndale, esq. of Bathford, in the county of Somerset, lineally descended from the feudal Barons de Tyndale, in South Tyne-dale, in the county of Northumberland (see BURKE's Commoners), and died in December, 1792, leaving issue, JOHN, who pursuant to the will of his maternal uncle, Coplestone Warre Bampfylde, esq. became possessed of the Hestercombe and other estates, and assumed the name of WARRE after that of Tyndale (vide infra). Thomas Bampfylde, esq. of Withiel-Flory, in the county of Somerset, an officer in the 14th regiment of foot. He m. Anne, daughter of the Rev. John Dennis, a minor canon of Oxford, by whom he had issue three daughters, viz. Anna-Margaretta, married to the Rev. Charles Taylor, and has issue. Louisa-Vere, m. to George Goppy, esq. formerly of Demerara, and late of Taunton, and has issue.

COPLESTONE Warre BampfylDE, only son of Margaret, the heiress of Hestercombe, m. Mary, second daughter of Edward Knight, esq. of Woolverley, in the county of Worcester, but had no issue. He was for many years colonel of the Somersetshire militia, and in the commission of the peace. He died 29th August, 1791, and bequeathed Hestercombe and his other estates to his nephew and heir-at-law, John Tyndale, on condition of his assuming the name of WARRE. This

JOHN TYNDALE WARRE, eldest son of George Tyndale, esq. aforesaid, by his second wife, Margaretta Bampfylde, was possessed of Hestercombe upon the death of his uncle, and took the name of WARRE. He was born in 1756, and married 10th January, 1789, Elizabeth, only child and heiress of John Farell, esq. late of Bristol, by whom he had an only daughter and heiress, ELIZABETH

son of George, Lord Delamer; from which lady, who d. 31st May, 1753, and is buried at Bathford, is descended George Booth Tyndale, esq. of Hayling, in the county of Sonthampton, the present head of the Tyndales (see BURKE'S Commoners).

EDWARD BORLACE, esq. m. first, the third daughter of Sir Michael Dormer, knt. but that lady died issueless. He wedded, secondly, Miss Jane Hudleston, and by her had two sons, namely,

CATHARINE, bapt. 14th October, 1568.

He was buried at Little Marlow, 22nd August,
