DUGDALE, Sir William, Knt. Monasticon Anglicanum per Rogerum Dodsworth & Gulielmum Dugdale. Londini, 1655, 61, 73. folio. 3 vols.

This work contains chiefly the foundation-charters of the monasteries at their first erection, the donation-charters in after times being purposely omitted: the publication was productive of many law-suits, by the revival of old writings; and the puritans were highly offended at it, as they looked upon it as a preparatory step to introducing popery. Some interesting remarks on the work occur in the Life, Diary, and Correspondence of the Author.
