all his fons and all his daughters rofe up to comfort him; but he refufed to be comforted; and he faid, For I will go down into the grave unto my fon mourning. -Thus his father wept for him.

.... And Jofeph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, bought him of the Ishmaelites. And the Lord was with Jofeph, and he was a profperous man. And his mafter saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all he did to profper in his hand; and he made him overfeer over his house, and all that he had he put in his hand and the Lord bleffed the Egyptian's house for Jofeph's fake; and the bleffing of the Lord was up. on all he had in the house, and in the field.

....And Jofeph was a goodly perfon and well favoured and his mafter's wife caft her eyes upon Jofeph, and tempted him to do wickedness. But he refufed and said unto his mafter's wife, Behold, my mafter hath committed all that he hath to my hand: there is none greater in this houfe than I ; neither hath he kept back any thing from me, but thee, becaufe thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and fin against God ?

...And it came to pafs as the fpake unto Jofeph day by day, and he bearkened not unto her, that the caught him by the garment, when they were together alone in the houfe-but he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and gat him out.

....And when the faw this, the called unto the men of her houfe, and fpake unto them, faying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us, to mock us: he came in unto me to abuse me, and I cried with a loud voice; and when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment with me, and gat him

out.

....And the laid up his garment by her until his ford came home and the fpake unto him the fame words; and when his mafter heard the words of his wife which the fpake unto him, laying, after this manner did thy fervant to me; his wrath was kindled. And Jo. feph's mafter put Lim into the prifon, a place where the king's prifoners were bound.

....But the Lord was with Jofeph, and thewed him mercy, and gave him favor in the fight of the keeper of the prifon. And the keeper of the prifon committed to Jofeph's hand all the prifoners that were in the prifon and that which he did the Lord made it to profper.

....And it came to pass, after these things, that Pharaoh was wroth againft two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers; and he put them into the prifon where Jofeph was bound and the captain of the guard charged JoTeph with them. And they dreamed a dream both of them, in one night. And Jofeph came in unto them, in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were fad.

....And he afked them, faying, Wherefore look ye fo ladly to-day? And they faid unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it.And Jofeph faid unto them, do not interpretations be. long to God? Tell me them, I pray you. And the chief butler told his dream to Jofeph, and faid to him ;

....In my dream, behold a vine was before me; and in the vine were three branches, which feemed to blossom and shoot forth clusters of ripe grapes, and I preffed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup in. to Pharaoh's hand.

....And Jofeph faid unto him, This is the inter

pretation of it: the three branches are three days. Yet within three days fhall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place, and thou fhalt deliver Pharaoh's cup into his hand, as formerly.

.... But think on me when it fhall be well with thee, and fhew kindness, I pray thee, unto me; and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this houfe: for indeed I was ftolen away out of the land of the Hebrews; and here also have I done nothing, that they should put me into the dungeon.

....When the chief baker faw that the interpretation was good, he faid unto Jofeph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head and in the uppermoft basket there was of all manner of bake meats for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket head. upon my

....And Jofeph anfwered and faid, This is the interpretation thereof the three baskets are three days. Yet within three days fhall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and thall hang thee on a tree, and the birds fhall eat thy fleth from off thee.

....And it came to país the third day, which was Pharaoh's birth day, that he made a feaft unto all his fervants. And he reftored the chief butler to his butler fhip again, and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's band but he hanged the chief baker, as Joleph had interpreted to them. Yet did not the chief butler remember Jofeph, but forgat him.

....And it came to pafs, at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed; and, behold, he flood by the river. And behold, there came up, out of the river, feven well-favoured kine, and fat-fleshed and they led in a meadow. And, behold, feven other kine came up after them out of the river,

ill-favoured, and lean-flefhed; and flood by the other kine, upon the brink of the river. And the ill-favoured, and lean-fle fhed kine did eat up the feven wellfavoured, and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke.

....And he flept, and he dreamed the fecond time: and, behold, feven ears of corn came up upon one falk, rank and good. And, behold, feven thin ears, and blafted by the east wind fprung up after them: and the feven thin ears devoured the feven rank and good ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.

....And, in the morning, his fpirit was troubled; and he fent, and called for all the magicians, and wife men of Egypt; and Pharaoh told them his dreams: but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh. Then fpake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, I do remember my fault this day.

.... Pharaoh was wroth with his fervants, and put me in prifon, both me, and the chief baker; and we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he. And there

was then with us a young man, an Hebrew, lervant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams: and, as he interpreted to s, fo it was : me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.

.... Then Pharaoh fent and called Jofeph, and they brought him haftily out of the dungeon; and he shaved himlelf, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh. And Pharaoh faid unto Jofeph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it; and I have heard fay of thee that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it. And Jofeph answered Pharaoh, faying, it is not in me: God fhall give Pharaoh an anfwer of peace.-And Pharaoh told Jofeph his dream.

....And Jofeph faid unto Pharaoh, the dream of Pharaoh is one : God hath fhewed Pharaoh what he is about to do. The feven good kine, and the feven good ears are seven years: and the feven thin and ill-favour. ed kine, and the feven empty ears blafted with the east wind, shall be seven years of famine.

..... Behold, there come feven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt. And there Thall arife after them seven years of famine very grievous and the famine fhall confume the land.

and

....Now, therefore, let Pharaoh look out a man difcreet and wife, and fet him over the land of Egypt. And let Pharaoh appoint officers over the land; let them gather the food of thofe good years, that food may be in ftore in the land, against the feven years of famine, and the thing was good in the eyes of Phara oh, and in the eyes of all his fervants.

...And Pharaoh faid unto his fervants, Can we find fuch an one as this is, a man in whom the fpirit of God is? And Pharaoh faid unto Jofeph, Forafmuch as God hath fhewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wife as thou art, thou shalt be over my house and people only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

... And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Jofeph's hand, and arrayed him in a vefture of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck: and he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, bow the knee, and he made him ruler over all the land c Egypt.

...And Jofeph went out from the prefence of Pharaoh, and went thoughout all the land of Egypt. And in the feven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls and Jofeph gathered corn as the fand of the fea. And the feven years of plenteousness
