EDITORIAL.

The present board of editors in delivering its valedictory must in justice make grateful acknowledgment of kind services done by many persons. First of all, the alumni have been models of promptitude in paying their annual subscription, and, what is perhaps of greater importance, they have shown a real interest in THE PURPLE and have received pleasure, if not profit, from reading it. But we must confess that on many occasions they might have helped us out more by sending on items of news either about themselves or their friends of former years. We have been forced to depend chiefly on the daily papers for the alumni news. These papers are obtained with trouble and expense to ourselves. Some few, loyal old fellows of the sixties and early seventies, did send papers with admirable regularity. But by far the greater number of graduates were delinquent in this matter. We are under a special debt of gratitude to the business manager of this year, who provided for us the sinews of war, the means necessary to keep THE PURPLE up to its old standard. We must also commend the generosity and judgment of
