that thou art mighty: to thee be the glory for ever. Remember, Lord, thy Church, to deliver it from every evil, and to make it perfect in thy love; and gather it together from the four winds, the holy church universal, into thy kingdom which thou hast prepared for it. For thine is the power and the glory for ever. Amen.

Then, as he delivers the cup to the People, the Minister shall say,

Drink this in remembrance of Christ.

When all have received the Communion, a Hymn may be sung, after which the Lord's Prayer shall be said by Minister and People together.

UR Father who art in heaven, hallowed

be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus; and the blessing of God Almighty be among you, and remain with you always. Amen.

THE BAPTISM OF INFANTS.

Minister.

HEAR the words of our Saviour Christ to his apostles:

Go ye, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Hear what is said of him in another place: They brought young children to him, that he should touch them; and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

DEARLY beloved, ye have brought this child here to be baptized; I demand therefore,

Will ye instil into his young mind the knowledge, reverence and love of God, as the heavenly Father of us all?

Answer. I will.

Will ye teach him to live for others and not for himself alone; to do good to all; to

abhor every form of falsehood, and to love what is just and honest, pure and true?

Ans. I will.

Will ye exhort him to keep God's holy will and commandments, and to walk in the same all the days of his life?

Ans. I will.

Will ye instruct him in the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, and teach him to follow Christ's precept and example as his highest law? Ans. I will.

Or, in place of the foregoing questions the Minister may use this Exhortation:

I

THEREFORE most faithfully and earnestly exhort you to nurture and rear him under those influences that spring from the teaching of Christ, and to give him that training which the Christian Church supplies; that he may be taught the fear of the Lord, and may learn to live for the life that has no end.

Then shall the Minister take the Child into his hands, and say to the Parents or Sponsors,

Name this child.

Then, naming it after them, and sprinkling water upon it, he shall say,

BAPTIZE thee in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

We receive this child into the congregation of Christ's flock, as one who is to fight manfully under his banner against the sin of the world, and to continue his faithful soldier and servant unto his life's end.

Minister. Let us pray.

ALMIGHTY and ever-blessed God, by whose providence the different generations of mankind are raised up to know thee, and to enjoy thy favor for ever; grant that this child, now dedicated to thee by our office and ministry, may be endued with heavenly virtues, and saved through thy mercy, who dost live and govern all things, world without end. We beseech thee to enable thy servants who are intrusted with the care of this child, to perform their duty faithfully; give them wisdom to be his defence against the temptations incident to childhood and youth; and as he grows up in life, graciously assist them to enlarge his understanding and to open his heart to the impressions of religion and virtue. This our petition we humbly present in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Or this:

GOD, out of whose deep love we have been called into being, we bless thy name for the children given into our keeping, through whom so much of the beauty of heaven is brought into our hearts and homes.

Help us, we pray, to deal with this gift as a sacred trust; to remember that it is not ours alone, but belongs also to thee and to thy great family of mankind. Grant that it may be well with this little one in the long path on which he has entered, following our steps; that he may be spared to them that love him throughout all their days, and may grow to be more and more a joy and comfort to their hearts. Give to those who watch over him wisdom and patience and faithfulness to do him good, and only good, as his teachers and guides. And lead him, we pray, by thine own spirit, where holy feet have walked before us, that he may be directed toward all things heavenly and true. Be thy ministering angels his defence, and grant that now and ever he may be kept as under the shadow of thy wings, and may come at last into that fulness of blessing which thou hast promised through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

WE give thee humble thanks, O Heavenly

Father, that thou hast vouchsafed to call us to the knowledge of thy grace, and faith in thee; increase this knowledge, and confirm this faith in us evermore, that we may be enabled to mortify all our evil and corrupt affections, and daily to proceed in all virtue and godliness of living, till we come to thine eternal kingdom, led by Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
