PREFACE.

THE text of the present edition of Télémaque, has been carefully compared with the most correct Paris editions, particularly with the French part of Baudry's Télémaque Polyglotte

While preparing the notes, the Editor has endeavored to bear in mind that the object of the student in translating a foreign work into his own language, is more to acquire knowledge of the language from which he translates, than te become acquainted with the work itself. The English equiva lents of the French idioms will, therefore, as far as possible be followed by a literal translation of the same.

In order to familiarize the student with the irregular verbs, the Editor has inserted numerous references to the complete Table or rather Dictionary of irregular verbs, contained in his New French Method.

Although the grammatical and idiomatical references are made to Fasquelle's French Method, yet the book may be used in connection with any other grammar; those references being given in addition to the necessary interpretation of the most difficult words and passages.
