He m. first, Jane, dau. and heiress of William Herbert of Hafodychtryd, and secondly Blanch, daughter of David Van, esq. of Lanwern-but dying issueless in 1733, he devised his estates (will dated 28th May, 1733) to his cousin,

1816, aged 67, his only daughter

accidentally burnt, 13th March,
1807, Mr. Johnes rebuilt it in its

ARCHIBALD, b. 10th August, 1813, of Trinity College, Cambridge. He took his bachelor's degree as senior wrangler in January, 1836.

LONG, WALTER, esq. of Rowde Ashton, Wraxall, and Whaddon, all in the county

of Wilts, born 10th October, 1793, married 3rd August, 1819, Mary-Anne, second daughter of the Right Honorable Archibald Colquhoun, of Killermont, in the county of Dumbarton, Lord Register of Scotland, and has issue,

This gentleman succeeded to the estates on the decease of his father in 1835. He is a magistrate and deputy-lieutenant, and M.P. for the northern division of the county of Wilts.

Lineage.

JOHN LONG, of Marston, in the parish of Potterne, m. Anne, daughter of John Merewether, of Great Cheverell, in the county of Wilts. He made his will and d. in 1597, leaving by his wife, Anne, who was buried at Little Cheverell, 1626, six sons and three daughters, viz.

1. Christopher, who m. and left issue.
II. THOMAS, ancestor of the Longs of
Rowde Ashton.

The family of the Longs of Wiltshire | The elder son, was settled at a very early date at South Wraxall, and subsequently at Draycote, in that county, by marriage, in the time of HENRY VI., with the heiress of Cerne. (See vol. ii. p. 165, and vol. iii. p. 211.) A branch of the name was anciently seated at Potterne and Little Cheverell, in the same county and vicinity; and the traditions, as handed down for several generations in this particular branch, and recorded on their monumental inscriptions, as well as the mutual mention made of persons of the same name in willst and various documents at very remote periods, by different contemporary members of the family of Wraxall and of that settled at Potterne, afford presumptive evidence that the ancestor of this branch derived his descent from one of the early sons of the house of Wraxall, about the time of HENRY VIII.

THOMAS LONG, of Potterne, in the county of Wilts, m. first, Isabel, daughter of John Flower, of Worton, in the parish of Potterne. He dated his will 1567, and d. 1570, leaving a second wife, Maud, and by his first marriage two sons,
