O let our Feet
Ne'er run aftray,
Nor rove, nor feek
The crooked Way!
III.

We'd hear our Shepherd's Voice,*
Who's watchful Eye doth keep
Poor wand'ring Souls among
The Thousands of his Sheep,
He feeds his Flock,+
He calls their Names,
His Bofoms bears

The tender Lambs.

IV.

To this dear Surety's Hands,
My Soul, commend thy Caufe.
He answers and fulfils

His FATHER's broken Laws:
Believing Souls

Now free are set ;

For CHRIST hath paid,
Their dreadful Debt.

V.

Then let our Souls arife,
And tread the Tempter down;
Our Captain leads us forth
To Conqueft and a Crown.

March on ! nor fear
To win the Day,
Tho' Death and Hell
Obftruct the Way.

John x. 27, † Ifa. xl. 11.

II.

Here I raise my Eben-Ezer,
Hither by thine Help I'm come;
And I hope, by thy good Pleasure,
Safely to arrive at Home :
JESUS fought me, when a Stranger,
Wand'ring from the Fold of GOD,
He, to rescue me from Danger,
Interpos'd with precious Blood.
III.

O! to Grace, how great a Debtor,
Daily I'm conftrain'd to be!
Let that Grace, now like a Fetter,
Bind my wand'ring Heart to Thee !
Prone to wander, LORD, I feel it,
Prone to leave the GOD I love-
Here's mine Heart-O take, and § feal it!
Seal it from thy Courts above!

HYMN LXXII.

For EASTER-DAY.

I.

HE Sun of Righteousness appears,
To fet in Blood no more;

Adore the Scatt'rer of your Fears,
Your rifing Sun adore!

II.

The Saints, when He refign'd his Breath,
Unclos'd their fleeping Eyes;

He breaks again the Bands of Death,
Again the Dead arife!

[ocr errors]

Alone the dreadful Race He ran,
Alone the Wine-Prefs trod ;
He dy'd and fuffer'd as a Man:
He rifes as a GOD!

IV.

In vain the Stone, the Watch, the Seal,
Forbid an early Rife,

To Him who breaks the Gates of Hell,
And opens Paradife.

JESU, could I this believe,

Now my poor Soul Thou would retrieve,
Nor let me wait one Hour.
IV.

Author of Faith, to Thee I lift
My weary, longing Eyes;
let me now receive that Gift !
My Soul without it dies !'

Supremely Great and Good!

And Thou by rev'rent Love unite
My Child-like Heart to Thee..
Still let me till my Days are paft
At JESU's Feet abide :

So fhall He lift me up at last,
And feat me by his Side.
