Entre la cruz y la hoguera

Portada
M. Hernández Gómez, 1992 - 255 páginas
A brief history of the Jews in Spain and of the Conversos in America, especially in Mexico. Recalls the pogroms of 1391 in Spain, the "limpieza de sangre" statutes, and the general expulsion of 1492. Traces the history of the Conversos in Mexico. Some regions, such as Monterrey in Nuevo León and the Los Altos area of Jalisco, were heavily populated by Conversos fleeing the Inquisition, especially in the time of the Inquisitor Juan de Zumarraga (1536-43). Refers to many trials of Judaizers in Mexico (e.g. those of Luis de Carvajal and 46 members of his family, 1596).
